Results from Shooting and Tennis competitions from now on also qualify athletes to Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, besides other 11 sports
International Shooting and Tennis Federations will use the results obtained during their corresponding competitions during RIO 2007 as qualifying results for Beijing 2008. From the 28 International Federations, so far 13 have opted to use the results from XV Pan American Games Rio 2007 as part of the qualifying process, thus assuring a high technical level for the competition and also the participation of the best athletes from the Americas in a larger number of sports disciplines. ‘It is also an evidence that the International Olympic community trusts in the Games and in the Organizing Committee of the XV Pan American Games Rio 2007’, said CO-RIO Secretary General, Carlos Roberto Osório, who adds: ‘CO-RIO is still under dialogue with International Federations so as the Games disciplines may be used as qualifying results for Beijing 2008’.
At this time , the following disciplines will have their Rio 2007 results used as part of Beijing 2008 qualification system: Athletics, Equestrian, Hockey, Handball, Judo, Modern Pentathlon, Swimming, Synchronized Swimming, Water Polo, Tennis, Table Tennis, Shooting and Triathlon.
