Marc Burns battled back from a poor start to win the bronze medal in the blue riband men's 100 M final as day five of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games came to an end.

In front of a packed Melbourne Cricket Ground the 2005 TTOC Sportsman of the year showed his class when overcame a disastrous start to produce a 10.17 time. Asafa Powell took gold in 10.03.Nigeria's Soji Fasuba took home silver in 10.11 secs.

Burns run was described by Antigua and Barbuda Secretary-General Leroy Williams as "miraculous". "To claim a medal at a major meet like this after such a start is a tremendous effort. I tip my hat to the courage of the young man. He would do well at the 200m"said Williams.

TTOC President Larry Romany also commended the feat. "Marc showed the heart of a champion , tremendous composure and focus to put the poor start behind him to win the bronze medal"said Romany.

Earlier Burns won his semi final in 10.15 secs to signal that he would be in the medal hunt.

It all almost came to nil to the chagrin of the T&T supporters among the 76000 crowd .However despair soon turned to red ,black and white elation and pride.
