History of the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC)
World War II. A seven (7)-year period during which international sport had been completely discontinued and local sport severely curtailed
End of World War II and a return to normalcy. Planning began for a resumption of the Olympic Games - the 1948 London Games
The Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Association (TTOA) was formed as a working committee, organised by Sir Lennox O’Reilly, in preparation for the 1946 Central American and Caribbean Games, Barranquilla, Colombia
The TTOA’s first first-ever team participated in the 1946 CAC Games. This team earned a total of seven (7) medals: 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze
- TTOA attained formal affiliation to the International Olympic Committee (IOC)
- The country’s first-ever Olympic Team made their debut at the 1948 London Olympic Games. The five-man team included one (1) weightlifter, one (1) cyclist, and three (3) runners
- Rodney Wilkes earned the country’s first ever Olympic medal, Silver in Men’s Weightlifting (Featherweight)
Montreal Games. T&T earned its first-ever Olympic Gold Medal - Halsey Crawford, Men’s 100 metres
TTOC officially began construction of its own Headquarters at Location. The new Olympic House will permanently house its secretariat, an Olympic Museum, and an Olympic Academ
