The T&T Olympic Committee's( TTOC) 2020 Olympic Youth Camp will not be a Live-in Camp with workshops and outings to various locations, Brian Lewis, the Olympic committee president said.
It will now be a Virtual Olympic Youth Camp.
The camp was first established in 2003 but has grown in popularity over the years, now being grossly oversubscribed every year.
In a release yesterday the local Olympic boss said with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic this year, and the prioritisation of safety and health, the TTOC will stage a Virtual Olympic Youth Camp.
"The target age group for the camp is 11 to 17 years. The TTOC has taken what we believe to be the responsible and necessary decision. It's difficult but we believe is in the best interest of the Youth Campers".
The Youth Camp activities got underway on Friday, July 24 to incorporate the one year to go Tokyo 2020 Rescheduled Opening Ceremony acknowledgement.
Meanwhile, the TTOC medical team chaired by TTOC Vice President Dr Terry Ali and including Dr Rudy Ramsawak and Dr Nialia Adam's was asked to prepare a Return to Field of Play COVID 19 Guidelines for national sport organisations affiliated to the twin Island Republic's national Olympic committee.
According to Lewis: "Dr Ali and his team were asked to prepare appropriate guidelines. The draft guidelines and recommendations will be discussed at the TTOC Executive Committee meeting on Monday. It is an important and urgent initiative given the COVID19 pandemic and the challenges and consequences the pandemic has caused sport, not only locally, but also globally."
