As a cricket fan whose love of the game was nurtured in the 1970s and 1980s, I know a thing or two about Caribbean sporting dominance.

West Indies players have benefitted from the big business which is the Indian Premier League (IPL).

A few weeks ago the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee ( TTOC ) pulled together some of the country’s brightest entrepreneurial, business and public sector minds. The hugely positive discussions focused on the big dream of building a huge and sustainable sport industry.

The time has come to cultivate beach cricket and the eventual marketing of this version of the sport, in an effort to boost this country’s sport tourism efforts says Baldath Mahabir executive member of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB).

Saint Lucia’s Government has named the Beauséjour Stadium after International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20 winning captain Darren Sammy, it has been announced.

The West Indies cricket team, with all their bling and bravado, are the very incarnation of the modern game. Stick them in whites, send them out to face a bunch of gimlet-eyed Aussies, and they will be lucky to extend a Test match to a third day. But give them maroon pyjamas, a white ball and a pumping soundtrack, and they will smack you into next week.
