Triple Olympic silver medallist Richard Thompson and National sprint queen Kelly-Ann Baptiste opened their 2016 season with second place finishes at the LSU Performance Meet in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday. Thompson was second in the men’s 60m dash in 6.74 seconds. The national 100m record holder was beaten to the line by Gabriel Mvumvure of Zimbabwe (6.69) with another local sprinter Shermund Allsop in sixth (6.89).

T&T quartermiler Lalonde Gordon braved severe cold weather to not only compete in the men’s 300 metres dash but win the event at the New Balance Games in New York which was postponed to Sunday.

International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) President Sebastian Coe tonight claimed he is “angered and dismayed” by multinational food company Nestlé’s decision to withdraw its sponsorship of the governing body’s Kids Athletics programme in the wake of the current doping crisis engulfing the sport.

The Trinidad and Tobago Marathon Committee had their first Secondary School Marathon Relay alongside their International Marathon in an effort to promote distance running in schools on Sunday. Emerging victorious in the inaugural event was none other than Maple Leaf with a strong core of six including Leigh Anderson, Caleb Bachew, Edgar Bodu, Dylan Lee, Jonathan Thompson and Kristopher Simmons.

T&T’s Olympic medallist Lalonde Gordon sprinted to victory again this weekend, clocking 20.78 seconds to take the 200 metres at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational at Boston University in the USA on Saturday.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Tonya Nero will be on the streets of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, tomorrow night (TT time), bidding for an Olympic berth. Nero is among thousands of runners entered in the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon, and will set off on her 26.2-mile journey at 10.30 p.m.
